Cosmetic breast surgery is the most common form of aesthetic plastic surgery performed in the US today. For the year 2009, records indicate that 410,236 cosmetic breast procedures were performed, comprised of breast augmentations, breast lifts and breast reductions. This is a trend that has been in progress for decades. Although women frequently require a combination of procedures to achieve the specific breast appearance they're seeking, it's most convenient to break the discussion down to the individual operations involved: breast augmentation, breast lift, female breast reduction and male gynecomastia correction.
Dr. Gruenwald is a board certified plastic surgeon in Baton Rouge, LA and provides aesthetic plastic surgery for those in and around the Baton Rouge and New Orleans areas.

Name | Introduction | | Breast Augmentation | I pride myself as being one of the region's most respected aesthetic plastic surgeons. During three decades of practice, breast augmentation has been the procedure most frequently requested by my patients. Drawing from my many years of experience, I have created this portion of the web site using a "Frequently Asked Question” format to share with prospective patients the information they should know about breast augmentation.
| | Breast Lift | Throughout my years as an aesthetic plastic surgeon in Baton Rouge, I've counseled thousands of women with regard to breast rejuvenation surgery. By this, I'm referring to those patients who consulted me after either nursing their children, going through weight gain and loss, or simply experiencing the effects of "time and gravity," and watching their breast position descend steadily downward.
| | Female Breast Reduction | The information provided above in the discussion of breast lift surgery is also relevant to any discussion of female breast reduction surgery. The distinguishing difference between the two procedures is the simple fact that a breast reduction, in addition to performing a "lift” to raise and tighten the breast, also removes a variable amount of breast tissue to simultaneously decrease breast size.
| | Male Reduction / Gynecomastia | The treatment of gynecomastia, in the male patient, involves reducing the breast size using methods associated with minimal scar formation. I'm of the opinion that, when possible, liposuction, alone should be used. This is, however, infrequently the case, because of the frequent occurrence of excessive glandular breast tissue which liposuction cannot correct.
