Fat Transfer

Although synthetic injectable fillers are a popular choice because of their ease and quick results, the fact that they are temporary and thus create an ongoing repeat injection expense becomes a definite drawback. For permanence, fat transfer (fat injections) must be considered.

Fat transfer involves obtaining "living” fat from one's body using a specialized liposuction method and then injecting this fat immediately into another area of the body, e.g. the facial region (cheeks, lips, eyelids or chin). This must be performed under sterile conditions and, therefore, is considered to be a minor surgical procedure. The results can be gratifying and permanent. There is the downside risk, however, that a significant amount of transferred fat may fail to survive and necessitate a repeat procedure to achieve the desired outcome.

As with many other aesthetic surgical procedures, one must weigh the options and decide the best course to follow.
