Foreheadplasty
Forehead lift surgery has been around for many decades, both to reposition the level of the eyebrows as well as to smooth out unwanted forehead wrinkles. This was accomplished during its early years by removing a strip of scalp, within the hair, across the top of the head or running along the front hairline. Many patients, fearing permanent scalp numbness, an unsightly scar, excessive elevation of the front hairline and a perceived permanently "surprised” expression, rejected this approach. With these possible problems (though in the hands of a capable surgeon none should occur), it's easily understood why so many patients avoided this portion of the facial rejuvenation effort.
My Preferred Technique
Medical technology and, in particular, the development of endoscopic surgery, finally paved the way for aesthetic surgeons to rejuvenate the forehead and avoid the problems mentioned above. My preferred method, the "small incision” foreheadplasty (with or without an endoscope), is performed using several small scalp incisions (no big scalp scar) minimizing the chance of permanent scalp numbness. It also offers an enhanced ability to selectively elevate just portions of the brow as necessary, refining the brow positioning process and producing a more pleasing result. This is now a procedure capable of improving the brow position without the associated problems of years past. Small incision foreheadplasty has now become a frequent component of my total facial rejuvenation plan.
